What to Expect During Your Skin Care Treatment

Do not pick at peeling skin. Keep skin hydrated with recommended moisturizer. Following microdermabrasion/chemical peel, on rare occasions one may experience mild erythema (redness), mild edema (swelling), mild scabbing. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and do not use UV tanning beds for 2 weeks after treatment. Do not have any facial laser treatments for at least 14 days after treatment. Exercise is acceptable for most patients, however, heat and perspiration may feel uncomfortable on sensitive skin. Discontinue topical retinol/AHA/BHA use for 5 days post procedure. Srpay Tan Tips

The perfect tan does not come without proper care before and after application. There are four rules to follow when preparing for a spray tan. When these four rules are applied, you will experience a smoother, longer lasting tan.

EXFOLIATION
Exfoliation should be a part of everyone’s health regimen; however, exfoliating before a spray tan is especially important. A spa grade exfoliator designed for spray tanning is ideal. If this is not available, use an oil-free scrub or shampoo and loofah. Using products containing minimal oils will help to avoid leftover residue which can affect the tan outcome.

Benefits of exfoliating:
• Removes dead skin cells allowing new cells to absorb color
• Smooths top layer of skin for flawless spray tan application
• Stimulates blood flow helping to promote cell generation

DEVELOPMENT
Always take the recommendation of the technician and do not shower too early. Showering before the recommended development time will increase the chances of washing the solution off before the color is fully absorbed into the skin.

HYDRATION
Hydration is key to a long lasting spray tan; be sure you stay hydrated inside and out. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturizing lotion 1-2 times per day. You should moisturize 18-24 hours before your spray tan session, especially after exfoliation. Moisturizing will help to strengthen the skin and allow for the tan to last longer and fade evenly. Using a Tan Extender lotion at least once a day will improve the longevity of your spray tan. Tan Extending lotions contain a small % of DHA which will not only moisturize the skin but also provide a small amount of gradual color to keep your skin looking flawless.

MAINTENANCE
Product usage is essential in maintaining a flawless, lasting tan. Be sure you are using the proper daily product in your maintenance regimen, (moisturizers, washes, creams, etc). Your sunless products should be…

• Paraben-free
• Contain zero or minimal sulfates, alcohols or other harsh and acidic ingredients
• Provide moisture without excessive oils that will strip the tan; water-based is ideal
• Contain minimally added fragrance

Spray Tan FAQ

Spray tanning solution is used with Dihydroxyacetone or DHA. DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the skin cells on the outer layer of skin called the stratum corneum. We use a natural, organic solution made with sugar cane and beets. As the sugar interacts with the skin cells, a color change then occurs.

Absolutely! The DHA solution used at Freeface Skincare is 100% organic, oil-free, gluten-free, fragrance-free, certified vegan and approved by PETA.

There are a few variables that determine how long your spray tan will last: your skin type, solution used at appointment, and length of time between application and first shower. Most spray tans last between 5-7 days but can last up to 10 days following proper pre/post tips and with a tan extender. If you like to maintain the color depth, it is recommended to get a spray tan once weekly and moisturize often.

Everyday millions of dead skin cells are sloughed off from your skin. A new epidermis forms on the skin every 35-45 days. This is why tanning solutions on the skin will gradually fade. As dead skin falls off, so does the tanning solution. With proper moisturizing and following our pre/post spray tan tips, the longer your tan will last.

Using one of our tan extender products works cohesively with our DHA solution. These products contain smaller percentages of DHA in them to further enhance your tan when it starts to fade. These products also contain moisturizers to help reduce the sloughing off of dead skin cells. If you have dry skin, these products are always recommended.

You should moisturize after your first shower following your initial spray tan. The more you moisturize, the better as a good moisturizer will deliver hydration (water) to the skin for as long as possible. Not moisturizing the skin will cause your spray tan to appear patchy as the skin will dry out and exfoliate more quickly.

Unfortunately, no. Only moisturizers and tax extenders will make a spray tan last longer.

With our Rapid Tan formula you will be able to shower in 1-2 hours. With our regular formula, you will be able to shower in 5-8 hours after application however, the tan will continue to develop up to 8 to 12 hours after application. The longer you wait to shower or exercise the better - since a longer wait time will hold the tan.

Yes. The solutions have a bronzing agent so you will have a beautiful glow right away. The bronzing agent will wash off after your first shower however, the DHA will continue developing underneath the bronzer for the next 8-10 hours. The longer you wait without showering (we recommend up to 10 hours) the longer your tan will have time to develop fully.

Too much DHA applied to the skin, too many applications or too high a concentration of DHA in one application are factors that cause a spray tan to look orange. At Freeface Skincare, and as certified and trained spray tan technicians we promise you won’t look orange. First, we apply a PH balancing spray to ensure an even spray tan and balance/prep the skin prior to your spray tan. We also customize our solution with each individual based on skin tone. A fair person would receive a solution entirely different from a person with olive skin. We mix solutions based off undertones as well, which ensures a beautiful, natural looking tan.

During the spray tan service you may wear as little as you are comfortable with, we are very professional and discrete. If you wear a bathing suit it should be dark and form fitting. After your spray tan you should wear loose, dark cotton clothing with slip on shoes to avoid any color transfer. Reapplying jewelry is not recommended as it can scratch the tan from the skin.

We use a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) Fuji turbine unit to apply your spray tan. The spray tan itself takes about 15 minutes however, we usually take 15-20 minutes to be sure your tan is completed thoroughly. The entire process is about 30 minutes - for you to enter our location, disrobe, consult, spray tan, dry, and re-dress.

You will be aware there is something on your skin, but will not feel sticky. After a few hours you won’t feel anything. Adding one of our spray tan additives such as anti-aging booster, skin firming booster, CBD booster your skin will feel even better afterwards!

Shaving and waxing at least 8 hours BEFORE being spray tanned is recommended since both remove the top layer of skin and opens pores. Applying a spray tan after shaving or waxing can give a freckled appearance in those areas. Shaving/waxing AFTER a spray tan will accelerate the exfoliating process and fade the tan faster giving it a streaky or patchy look. Always use a sharp razor so you remove the hairs only and not the tan.

Absolutely not. The spray tan solution mist can penetrate past the hair and will heed the same results as someone without hair.

If you choose to spray tan your face, we recommend a light spray as it is easier to blend makeup for a natural look. We recommend a light coverage of makeup however, keep in mind if you wash and rise it before waiting the recommend time you will stop the tan from further developing.

Skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis can be tested with a spray tan ‘patch test.’ Here we will spray tan a small area for you to see if you can be spray tanned. If so, it important to apply moisturizer as much as possible as tanning solutions can have a drying effect on the skin.

Absolutely! For drier skin types we recommend exfoliating your skin for 3 days prior to getting your spray tan and moisturizing often to slow down the skin’s exfoliation process.

Any sweat, water, even rain will immediately stop the tanning development process. To minimize excessive sweating you need to exfoliate your skin before receiving your spray tan. We also have unscented baby wipes to use over your body prior to spray tan application if necessary. You can also use talcum powder anywhere you are likely to sweat once your spray tan is dry.

Spray tanning 2-3 days before a wedding, photoshoot, or any special event is ideal. Generally, the spray tan will darken over the next several days, usually peaking by the third day. This allows time for the tan to fully activate and settle. At least 2 showers is recommended to remove any bronzers that may be left on the skin to avoid transfer onto garments prior to an event.

100% YES! There is no sun protection in spray tan solutions. Just because your skin looks tan doesn’t mean you don’t need to apply sun protection. It is imperative to ALWAYS protect your skin from the sun.
