Anti-Inflammatory Foods + Link To Acne

As an esthetician I get a lot of questions about acne and the random ‘help! why is my skin breaking out?!’  Although there can be a number of factors causing skin to break out - hormones, environment, lifestyle, not keeping up with your facials ;) and these darn masks (boo to maskne) we are wearing for long periods are just some examples.

There’s one major factor often overlooked and really important. Food and diet. A poor diet of processed foods, gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol, all play a huge role and can wreak havoc on the skin.  You can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on skincare treatments and products…but if you’re not starting from within what’s the point?

Acne is basically inflammation.  Start by adding these anti-inflammatory foods into your diet.  Not only will they make you look better, they’ll make you FEEL better.  Your body, and your skin…will thank you.

Examples of anti-inflammatory foods:

  • Turmeric

  • Ginger

  • Berries

  • Nuts & Seeds

  • Whole Grains

  • Vegetables & leafy greens

  • Bone broth

  • Fish

  • Probiotics (oh hey, kombucha)

  • Green tea (I drink 1 cup daily + it prevents breast cancer)

  • Olive oil

  • Avocados

  • Beans

  • Fermented foods (kimchi FTW!)
